GUN I

This photographic series explores the idea of gender and the implications of heteronormativity through the use of a structured 'subject-to-environment' relationship. By inserting actions and objects relative to the heteronormative assumption of 'male' or 'masculine' I was able to explore the abstraction of female form and the relationship between assumed identities. This work employs the insertion of human into environment as a visual confrontation of some individual's inherent impulse to presume the gender identity and sexual orientation of another individual. The negative implications of 'gender labeling' or 'gender assumption' are things that myself and many individuals experience on a continual basis.
